Viralgen has received the DonostiaINN 2020 Award in San Sebastian

San Sebastián. Noviembre 2020 – Viralgen has received the DonostiaINN 2020 Award in the ‘young innovative companies’ category, from Fomento de San Sebastián, during the 7th edition of the Donostia WeekINN. This award recognizes Viralgen as “a recently created company in an emerging sector with high global projection, a company that represents the model of a future company, with high talent needs and a strong technological base.”

The award ceremony took place last Friday, October 30th, at the María Cristina Hotel in San Sebastián, with the presence of the Mayor of San Sebastián, Eneko Goia, the Councillor for Economic Promotion, Marisol Garmendia, and the Deputy for Economic Promotion, Imanol Lasa.

Among her words, the Councillor for Economic Promotion, Marisol Garmendia, highlighted that “with these awards we intend to provide value and recognition to companies in San Sebastián that are committed to innovation. […] With respect to Viralgen, in a very short time it has demonstrated that its commitment is a clear example of a project with great potential and impact in Donostia and Gipuzkoa. The biotechnology or bioscience sector is clearly an area of opportunity for our city, around which young companies are emerging, which we are clear must be supported, as we do from Fomento San Sebastián through different instruments and programs. The fact that it has been selected by Harvard to manufacture the vaccine for the COVID-19, or the recent acquisition by the German multinational Bayer, only reinforces its potential and the possibility of seeing rapid growth in the short term, with what it means for our city.”

Innovation award to the young company

Viralgen was born as a joint venture between AskBio and Columbus Venture Partners, combining decades of experience in technology and drug development on multiple platforms to support the best service offerings for the gene therapy market. It was created in 2017 to address the unmet need for gene therapy manufacturing, with the goal of helping to expand access to these life-saving therapies and contribute to the advancement of human health and well-being worldwide.
